Filling Me Like A Melody .............. << previous // next >>
I was planning to write in here after all my exams were done and over with, but I just felt the itch to write something (oh, and no, I don't have lice or anything equally disgusting). So, here I am. Did ya miss me...even the slightest? *Smile* Well, I missed this diary and just writing in it. Somehow or other, I always end up apologizing to this online diary for not writing often enough. This is ridiculous and it has got to stop. I'll have to figure out a more snazzy way of saying hello and starting off my entries, or else I'll start to sound like a broken record, or a really bad Prince song. Hmm...I must've been really busy. My last entry was all the way back in the beginning of November. Yep, I finished writing 2 of my exams. One was for religion and the other was for natural science. I believe that I did very well on both, but we'll see what happens when classes resume in January. Now I've only got 2 left to go and then I'm a free to truly enjoy the holiday season!!!! My other 2 are both psychology courses. I should do just fine, considering that I understand the material very well. Keep me in your prayers! *Smile* Oh, remember how before I told you how I was going to be getting an acoustic guitar for myself for Christmas? Well, plans may change. I'm now considering this beautiful electric guitar I saw in a music store. It's a nice shape and size, with 6 strings. It has this really rockin' finish - cherry red and it's enamel (or whatever its coating is made with) is glittery red. What an original piece! There was also another one in the same model, except the guitar was glitter blue. They both look amazing and the price tag doesn't hide the fact...*Grin*...Anyway, I'm just a newbie at the guitar. I'm planning to learn how to play the guitar for the first time. Some people have told me that it's better to start out with an acoustic guitar, but then I've heard elsewhere that it's better to choose your guitar based on the type of music that you like and that you plan to learn and play. Well, I listen to practically every kind of music out there from Michelle Branch to No Doubt to Faith Hill to Treble Charger to Vanessa Carlton to Swollen Members (etc. etc. etc.), so it's a little hard to choose. I figured though, that I'd probably like to play rock music rather than country or folk. So, most likely....electric guitar it is. Haha, hopefully I don't suck at it, or else what a waste! Most likely I should get the knack of it, considering that I have the clarinet, flute, piano, and saxophone under my belt. I couldn't have learned all those instruments if I was a co-ordination klutz. *Blush* At least I hope I'm not! A week ago, I got a new Christmas tree (NOT "Holiday tree" like SOME people have called it). The old one was 14 years old and quite frankly, it was biting the dust. The old one was a blue spruce. This new one I can't remember exactly what kind it is. I never paid attention to the name. Anyway, this new tree is much more work than the old tree was! For the new tree, you have to put in each individual branch. All the branches are alphabetized and coloured coded....Good grief! It's almost like you have to get your degree in engineering or something before you can put a dinky ole Christmas tree together! Well, luckily enough, I didn't have to go through that intense suffering. Without an engineer's degree, I got the tree up all by myself. Momma, aren't you so proud? Haha...My brother came over to visit and when he saw the tree all decorated and completed, he said that it looked like it was professionally done! *Mary beams a huge cheesy grin* (If only I didn't have my two front teeth, then my grin would be even cheesier!) Anyway, so my dad took the old tree and obviously we had to trash it. Branches were falling apart and it was all wobbly. Hey, it served its purpose for 14 long years. Get this --> My dad took a wrench and pulled each branch section out from the centre pole of the old tree. Goofy me thought that it was so sad. It was almost like a death in the family or something! Ever since I was 6 years old, we had that tree up during Christmas, and now my Dad was plucking the life out of it and stuffing it in a garbage bag! Okay, okay...maybe I'm over-reacting just a LITTLE bit. *Smirk* I think that I've been annoying my dad a bit. I've been constantly playing Christina Aguilera's songs "Beautiful" and "A Voice Within." Those 2 songs are amazing. What incredible talent and lyrics! It's so much better that Christina is singing more expressive songs instead of all that airy pop stuff. I don't have anything against pop (I like some of it), but I mean, if you have a soulful voice, you should use it to sing soul music. Yesterday I finally saw Avril Lavigne's newest music video for "I'm With You." I actually saw it on someone's fansite. As you know, I like all her songs and the videos for "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" were awesome. Now, this 3rd one, I heard, is going to be the last single from her debut album. That sucks. I was hoping that she'd do a video for "Anything But Ordinary." That's my favourite song out of them all, followed closely by "Naked." As for songs she sang that aren't on her debut album, I really like "Get Over It", "Falling Down", and "I Don't Give." Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked now....back to her newest video for "I'm With You." It's alright. Some people say that it's her best video yet. I don't know if I quite agree with them. For sure it's more mature than her first two. But, when I think "Avril", I think about spontaneity and spunky behaviour. The music video seemed sober and calm and reserved and timid...and I really never associated Avril with those adjectives before. It's a good video, but it's just very different from Avril's image. It's just my personal preference. I like her crazy side more than her sensitive soft side. Why? No, I'm not a crazy daredevil-thirsty person. It's just that there are so many other singers out there who sing soothing, relaxing, soft music (like Enya...amazing!). Avril is more believable (at least to me) when she is jumping up on vehicles, pulling pranks in the mall, and other juvenile acts. Her image was marketed as fun and real. Anyway, I wonder when she's gonna put out a second album. I can't wait! I'm sure she'll pump out some great material. I wonder when Gilmore Girls will be out on DVD. So far, there are no plans to produce the episodes on DVD or video and I wonder WHYYY??? Gilmore Girls has got to be the best show out there. It's got intelligence, depth, humour, and love. Anyway, if it ever comes out, I would buy them all for Season 1 up to the present. Keep your fingers crossed everyone (and if you can, your toes too!) Speaking about DVDs and such, guess what? On Friday, my dad bought the Season One set of Felicity on DVD. Nope, it wasn't for me like all of you thought. It was for HIM!!! He actually likes that show. Geez, I think of that show as more of a girlie type of show. Anyway, so I saw 2 episodes of it while he was watching it. It's actually not as bad as I thought (and it's not worse either, incase you're trying to be a smartalec). It's more of a drama, which makes it interesting. Probably during the Christmas holidays, I'll watch the Season One episodes. I never thought it would happen, but ahhhhh, my father turned me over to the "dark side"....haha, with Felicity, how dark could it possibly be? Anyway, we'll see whether I like it or not. Guess what? Way back in the beginning of November or so, I finally went to get my hair dyed the brightest stop sign red you ever saw. It was literally as bright as a red crayon! Okay, this needs some explaination minus the sweat and tears. Initially I wanted just chunky red streaks throughout my hair. Well, this guy did the streaks, yes, but he also dyed the rest of my hair too. SO, all my hair was basically a stop sign red. Talk about stopping traffic or causing accidents! Anyway, when he was done dying my hair and cutting it, I put my glasses on, took a look, and I was absolutely horrified at the image I saw staring back at me through the mirror. It was me a la Ronald McDonald!!!! Can you say major cheese factor? Anyway, I thought, hey, maybe it will look better once I go and wash it and style it my usual way. So, that's what I did once I went home. I washed my hair and styled it to see if it was the hairdo that was attrocious. Well, no, it turned out that it was just the colour. My haircut was just a 3 inch trim of the ends of my hair (and my hair is long - past my shoulders). Anyway, so I called the salon/spa up the next morning and asked if I could go in to have it fixed. Thankfully I could and then, not even wanting anymore red in my hair, I just told the guy to dye it all the darkest black possible. I just didn't want to see anymore of Ronald McDonald taunting me. I don't even have a contract with the fast food chain, so I'm not going to walk around as their spokesperson. So, it was done - the darkest goth black you'd ever see in your life. I liked it. My natural haircolour is a blackish-brown, so dark black is slightly more dramatic. Well, it's now been about a month since I went through the trauma of a bad dye job and the black seems to be coming out. The red is coming out a bit too. Now it looks like I've got some subtle burgundy streaks, which is fine by me. If only you saw the "Hallowe'en-ness" of my hair on that Friday night, you'd agree that anything is better. Bright red looks awesome on some people (lucky people!), but with me, I just don't have the right skin tone. I have pale/fair skin, but for that shade of red, your skin should really be almost white to match it. Oh well, I learned a valuable lesson from it and I've now vowed to save my money and never dye my hair again. I'm finally comfortable with my natural hair colour. I'm going to let it grow out - natural - me - it's free. Oh, and just as a little sidenote commentary, people always tell me that they think my long curly hair is pretty and that they really like it, .... blah blah blah. I usually laugh and tell them the reason why I have grown it long. Simply it's this: I've had so many bad experiences in salons (bad haircuts, bad service, bad dye jobs, etc.) that I just avoided going there for a very long time. Naturally, my hair grew out, and surprisingly, it suited me and was easier to style than my grade 10 bobbed look (which I'm totally over). Last month I got my hair dyed and cut on a whim. That was very unusual for me though. Usually I just trimmed the ends of my hair myself. Since my hair's so long, it's a cinch. That time though, I guess I wanted to get it professionally done. I think that from now on, I'll just stick to trimming it myself. I mean, my hair is curly, so you can't really see if the hair is cut uneven...haha...and my friend says that it actually looks better when curly hair is layered (good for me! Hehe) Anyway, for all of you girls out there who are stressing over your hair (especially if it's frizzy), try going naturally curly - let your hair air-dry with a little mousse and see if it curls. Curly hair is soooooooo much easier to take care of than straight hair. I remember when I used to fight with my blow dryer to get it straight. I'd get flyaways and frizz galore, plus it would get all static cling-like. By just leaving my curly hair as is, all I have to do is put a little mousse in it and voila. Curly hair is messy, so you don't have to be neat. Actually, the messier it is, the more I like it. The ringlets and waves come out better if it's messy. Oh boy, okay....enough about hair for goodness sakes! This isn't an airy YM magazine!!! Alright, this is a really short entry. That's all the time I have for now. I'll write more once all my exams are over. By that time, I should have more time to twiddle my thumbs and write a masterpiece of words in here....haha, sure. So, until the next time, spread the sunshine, look both ways before crossing the street, and always wear clean undies!!! *Smirk* Haha.....Buh bye for now! ~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-.~.*-. SONG STUCK IN MY HEAD: "Don't Believe It All" by Treble Charger. This is an incredible song. It's becoming one of my favourites, among many. LAST SONG I LISTENED TO: "Weapon" by Matthew Good. I found this song through watching their music video for it. It is quite an intelligent video. They've even got "subliminal messages" and other flashing words here and there. It's quite intriquing just because you don't see many music videos like that. Anyway, I've never really listened to Matthew Good, but since I like this song, I might go and check out some of their other songs and see if they are equally appealing. FAVOURITE SINGER/BAND OF THE MOMENT: Hmm...I'd have to say Michelle Branch yet again. What an awesome singer and musician! RECOMMENDED READING: "Discoveries and Opinions of Galileo" by editor Stillman Drake (ISBN #: 0-385-09239-3). I admit that I didn't just pick this book up on a whim or by interest. Last year this was a required book for a course I was taking. Little did I know that I would grow to love the book and the life story it told not only of the man Galileo was, but also what science was like back then. Galileo, a famous religous scientist faced a society that was ruled by Copernican thought during the Scientific Revolution. Galileo is known for his important discoveries in the realms of astronomy and gave a very eloquent argument for why religion and science don't contradict one another. This book may sound dry from my little blurb, but trust me, you will gain a greater understanding and appreciation for Galileo and his contributions after reading the book. You will also admire him for sticking to his beliefs, even though at the time, he was tried in court, thought to be professing/teaching heretical content, and was later put under house arrest (and many years later went blind and died). I have so much respect for this great man, this great scientist, this great Catholic. The book is sectioned off into the letters and essays Galileo wrote on touchy subjects (well, they were touchy at the time). Galileo is so eloquent. Also, back then, scientists did everything! Galileo (among other famous scientists) were also excellent writers, artists, mathematicians, philosophers, and the whole caboodle! It almost puts our society to shame because we all have specialized careers. Back then, people were so well rounded that it boggles my mind! Impressive! SHOUT OUT: My dad has been known to be sneaky and read through my online diary entries (which is fine, since the rest of the world also has access to it). Anyway, so I want to say a loud, boistrous, annoying "HIIIII DAAAADD!!!! Caught ya reading this!" *Smirk*
